These courses are required to receive the Animal Disaster Responder certificate.
Many of the topics included in this academy can be taught as standalone courses.

Wildland Fire Awareness (S-130, S-190, LS-130)
2 ½ Days (20 hours)
This course taught is taught by a National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) certified instructor. It includes S-130 Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior; S-190 Firefighter Training and LS -130 Human Factors on the fire line courses which will give you the basic knowledge needed to work on or around wildland fire lines. The course is the prerequisite for obtaining a Red Card.

Basic Animal Sheltering Environment (BASE)
1 Day (8 hours)
Understanding the types of disasters that can affect your area and what problems those disasters cause is the first step. You will then go on to learn about the different sheltering options, how to set up a shelter, working with volunteers, supplies needed, dietary needs, procedures for tracking the animals, basic health protocols and custodial responsibility and laws for both small and large animals.

Exotic Awareness Training (EAT)
1 Day (8 hours)
Over the years there has been an increase in disaster preparedness and response for the exotic animals housed in zoos, sanctuaries and back yards. The EAT class will give you the basics on understanding who regulates exotics, identifying who keeps exotics and how to identify available resources. Public education and safety, disaster planning, identifying and understanding the differences between species, behavior, handling, equipment and emergency housing will be covered.

Stress Management In Life (SMILE)
½ Day (4 hours)
Stress management is an essential skill all responders must have in their everyday work and especially during disaster response. Learning how to take care of yourself and your fellow responders is one of the most essential skills you can learn.
