Disaster Response for Animals

Code 3 Associates is a leading organization that specializes in providing professional technical animal rescue and recovery services to communities affected by man-made or natural disasters. Our team responds to official requests for assistance from local Emergency Managers or jurisdictional authorities in charge of animal rescue operations during a disaster.

At Code 3 Associates, we understand the importance of timely and effective animal rescue during times of crisis. That’s why our Riders on the Storm Animal Rescue Team and BART (Big Animal Rescue Truck) are always ready to assist and support agencies when incidents or events exceed their ability to provide basic response services.

Our History

Code 3 Associates was started in 1985 in South Lake Tahoe, CA to provide much needed training for law enforcement officers involved in animal issues. BART, our Big Animal Rescue Truck, debuted ten years later after the Oklahoma City bombings brought to light the idea to create a fully self-sufficient vehicle that could respond to animal needs in disasters.

Code 3 Associates was incorporated and received its non-profit status in 1998. We have evolved from one visionary volunteer to full time employees, adjunct instructors, professional responders and that same visionary volunteer. In addition to our full time team members, our team has at least 75 professional responders around the country with highly trained response team leaders and dedicated volunteers working to further Code 3’s mission.

We have not only expanded our disaster response efforts and the size of our team, but also our animal related training topics and scope. Working in partnership with Colorado State University, we have trainings and academies taught all over the United States, and more than 800 students a year attend training classes put on by Code 3 Associates.
