ANIMAL CRUELTY CASE INVESTIGATION
In-Depth Investigation from Start to Finish
Code 3 Associates is proud to introduce three days of practical application in investigating animal cruelty cases for law enforcement, humane investigators, animal control officers and those teaming with law enforcement agencies to assist with cruelty investigations.
“Excellent program. Very interesting & educational. Always makes me want to be a better officer and excel in my field. Also, very important topics covered for today’s society.”
This course covers from the initial complaint through the proper filing of your case with the prosecutor. Students will receive traditional classroom instruction accompanied by daily work processing one of four “cruelty scenes”. Coaches will be assisting through process and investigation with each scene.
Each team will work through investigations and interviews, identifying elements and applying for search warrants, processing their crime scenes, packaging evidence and presenting their finished case to the prosecutor. Prior to attending this class, the student should have a working knowledge of basic complaint investigation, probable cause and search and seizure. In an effort to maintain a small student to instructor ratio this class will be limited to 24 students so don’t delay on registrations.
This academy is taught in partnership with Colorado State University for certification. Upon successful completion, students will receive a certificate and are eligible to apply for continuing education credits from Colorado State University. Veterinary professionals may apply to receive CEUs from Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
The faculty includes Belinda Lewis, MS, CAWA and Matt Lewis, AS, FWPD Detective (retired).
Matt and Belinda have a combined 63 years in law enforcement, field services, cruelty investigations, and scene processing. They have been providing cruelty and forensic photography programming both nationally and internationally for 18 years prior to coming to Code 3. Currently, Belinda is a faculty instructor with Code 3 and Matt is an investigator for The Hoosier Lottery.
